Opportunity Called Last Week
15 12 08 - 23:08You ever have one of those lazy kinda afternoons around the office? You know, when you're just idling along & have everything under control. Then you get a phone call that sends you spinning into Overdrive? . It was after lunch on monday & I had a plan. I thought I had an achievable goal in mind. I could see myself escaping early & hiding in the shop for the rest of that afternoon, when suddenly the phone rang. I answered it to find Dave Herbert from AutoTraderClassics.com on the other end of the line. Our website, SinglefingerSpeedShop.com had been chosen to participate in a program to help out start up companies, like ours, with advertising space on their site. He needs our decision & our art by the 16th, only 7 days away. HOLY CRAP!!!
Suddenly I'm on the Rev Limiter! I start zipping out calls & emails everywhere; to Zumo for an advert design, to my cousin Louie for the hats & T-shirts he's had on the shelf for weeks, & most importantly to Chris, our web designer. We hadn't finished many of the details on the site, because we didn't have a deadline. My GF will attest to the fact that NO guy is worth a damn without a deadline.
I'm running around like I've been mainlining expresso, but Chris is all laid back, talking like he had a Capt'n Morgan in each hand. (I coulda...) There was a lot to be done, but he said "don't worry, it'll get there". I havt to admit that Chris was right, that despite my theatrics, everything is coming together. Thanks to him, the site keeps getting better & better. We worked out the few bugs we found, but IMHO the results are spectacular! Many of our friends have already signed up, plus we are making new friends every week because the forum is growing into a good place to spend some quality time. I'm proud to say that the site's already getting a stunning number of hits every day.
