Citizens Unheard, SCOTUS Didn't Try
21 01 16 - 19:17Today we "celebrate" the 5 year anniversary of one of the shittiest decisions ever made by the Supreme Court of the United States, the still controversial Citizens United decision. The Court handed a HUGE win to big corporate money and gave them deep-pocketed economic power over our elected officials.
In delivering their decision to allow corporations a larger voice in the election process than ordinary people have, Roberts, Scalia, Alito, Thomas & Kennedy proved that they are either naive old scholars, senile old gits, or unctuous slimeball pricks. You choose.
There seems to be universal agreement that these knuckleheads puked out a piss-poor decision. Some scholars argue Citizens United lit the fuse for the meteoric rise in the wealth of today's 1%-ers, as much as it has diminished the size & stature of today's middle class. As mountains of corporate money drive a stake deep into the heart of the American Democratic process & skewer the voice of the middle class, the 5 Justices seem to stand impassively behind their decision. It was a massive error in judgement that may never get corrected.
You could also argue that SCOTUS is the reason that we now are subjected to endless amounts of Trump's self aggrandizing bullshit & listen to the incessant chattering of the Alaskan Queen squirrel. It's enough to make you want to piss on the heads of those 5 Supreme Court Dickheads.
